Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin Released see full details here

Lubuntu official now available for download

LXDE based Ubuntu derivative ‘Lubuntu’ was accepted as official Ubuntu derivative at Ubuntu Developer Summit in Budapest. Now official daily builds of Lubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot are available for download.

Lubuntu uses Abiword and Gnumeric instead of LibreOffice which makes it more native. More applications include Chrome instead of Firefox, Pidgin instead of Empathy, LXDE components include Pcmanfm file manager, Openbox window manager and more.

Lubuntu project leader Julien Lavergne said:

After 2 years of work, and 3 “unofficial” releases (10.04, 10.10 and 11.04), we had recently an official go from the Technical Board and ISO images are now made like other Ubuntu flavors. I hope the 11.10 will be the 1st official release of Lubuntu as a member of the Ubuntu family.

If you want stable Lubuntu then go for 11.04 or wait for Official Lubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot release in October 2011.
