Xfce is becoming popular as more and more people are migrating away from Gnome-Shell and Unity. As Xfce is desktop environment which is developed for high performance and low-end systems, so Xfce doesn’t include Compiz. If you want to migrate to Xubuntu and don’t want to miss eyecandy provided by Compiz than you can follow this tutorial.
First you have to install Compiz, Compiz Settings Manager and Gnome Themes, to do so open terminal and paste following command
sudo apt-get install compiz compiz-plugins-extra compiz-plugins-main compizconfig-settings-manager gnome-themes
Than you have to install Emerald but Ubuntu Repository packages of Emerald are not working, so you have to download libemeraldengine and Emerald.
After installing Compiz and Emerald go to
Menu> Settings> Settings Manager> Session and Startup> Application Autostart
and add Compiz and Emerald in autostart applications list
name: compiz
command: compiz –replace ccp
name: emerald
command: emerald –replace
After adding Emerald and Compiz make sure that under
Menu> Settings> Settings Manager> Session and Startup> General
Automatically save session on logout is unchecked.
That’s it, now you have working Compiz and Emerald under Xfce environment. If you have any problems than try to clean /*username*/.cache/sessions.
